Family YMCA Teens
Friday Night Live This program is free for young teens. They will work under the supervision and guidance of a YMCA Friday Night Live (FNL) Advisor to promote Caring, Honesty, Respect and Responsibilty which are the the pillars of YMCA's Character Counts Program. The youth will be trained to educate other youth in education and prevention of alcohol and other drugs. The youth will perform community service as well as plan and host dances at the YMCA. Participants will also have the opportunity to work with other FNL clubs in Kings County. Volunteer applications are available at the YMCA front desk. Youth and Government Y&G is an educational program for high school students that provides the opportunity to experience government first -hand. This program strives to give youth both the tools and character values to empower them to solve problems with the established system of government. Members will also have the opportunity to work with other delegates from other Y&G programs. The six month program culminates in a five day Youth Model Legislature & Model Court in Sacramento. Here students role-play all the positions of the government; solving community problems through the democratic process. This event takes place in the historical halls and chambers of our State Capitol and Supreme Court.
